While doing a routine followup survey of the FGSC994 system, the Constitution's science officer detects something truly odd in orbit about the third gas giant in the system. Sensors indicate a spot in space a full degree below the cosmic black body temperature of 2.7 degrees K. That should be physically impossible, unless some unknown forces are driving the temperature dip.
Arriving at the source of the temperature dip the ship discovers a small asteroid, radiating a surface temperature of 1.7 K. In all other ways this seems like a normal nickle-iron asteroid, albeit in a highly inclined and eccentric orbit around the planet.
The Constitution launches two shuttlecraft for a close up look at the surface. It hovers above the Hoyt, while the Ellison circles around the backside of the moonlet. As it goes over the limb of the cosmic pebble's horizon line, its telemetry starts to be blasted with static. Seconds later a final transmission is received from the shuttlecraft before it inexplicably vanishes:
"My God! It's full of........."
