Gazelle Close Escort by Arcas-Art Gazelle Close Escort by Arcas-Art
Here's another Traveller-era image (mid-80's) from my sketchbook. This one I have published here before as part of my "Sketchbook Escapees" piece, but it's one of my favorite unpublished doodles so I figured I'd give it a larger, solo showing.

The Gazelle Close Escort is a 400-ton Imperial ship - a small warship. It's one of the game's older designs, but when the game was updated in the late eighties David Deitrick did his own tweak of the design for the MegaTraveller cover art. It really clicked with me so I decided to take his direction and run a bit more with it. But then maybe I was just looking for an excuse to put a shark mouth on a space ship. That's probably it ;p

A 4" pencil drawing on (now coffee stained) sketchbook paper.

I love older Traveller designs like this one. They always felt "real" to me because of all the details, and the blockiness fit with my sense of style. :)

The Gazelle wasn't always this blocky. This is sort of the MegaTraveller rethink. The original looked like this:

This brings back fond memories of college and trying to pry my RPG buddies way from D&D to play a little more Traveller.

I can't help, but this ship looks...hungry! :D
But it also looks as if you could feel safe and protected in it.
Sure it would be a ship I would choose for the rougher parts of the universe :)

It does have a sort of "flying bunker" sense about it, hm? ;)
