There are a number of sketches/designs/drawings I did that never made it beyond the cover of my sketchbook. This is a collection of the Traveller ship designs that got stuck there, circa '87-'92.

By way of an ID key, top left is an original design - a commercial version of the Scout/Courier design. The kind of thing operated by the megacorps. On the right is my external design for a Fast Cutter from one of FASA's early deckplan products. Below is a view of David Deitrick's redesigned Gazelle close escort, showing a bottom view.

The next cluster are various views of a 2000 ton cruiser employed by the Domain of Deneb naval forces, and finally it's me and Drell-7's [link] rework of the Far Trader design, based on some early development sketches by me and some design bits inspired by images in the Japanese printing of Traveller.

Thanks!
I do what I can to steer clear of "shabby", but I don't always succeed. ;)

You are too modest...shabby? Indeed NOT! I don't think you have a shabby bone in yer body mate.

Well, I hope you do that "alive thing" for a long, long time--especially if it results in such fine artwork. :)
I for one wish Speilberg had done "The Rocketeer", but I'm grateful for Johnston's work with it. At least it made it to the big screen. :)
You bring up an interesting point: how many of our influences can we consciously know? I suspect there are a lot more at work than we realize. :)

I'm sure you're right. We are shaped by consciously recognized influences, but also so many "unnamed" influences.... TV advertising producers, for example.

Thanks for your well-wishing on "the alive thing". I've managed five decades so far, so maybe I'm gettin' good at it? ;)

Five decades is pretty good! Another five and you'll be an expert. :)
