The Quiet Ringsby *Arcas-Art

Captain’s Log, Stardate 60449.1 – Commander Naheed Tate, reporting. We have left The Egg and the SEG-CG477 and have resumed our explorations of the northern stretch of the Sagittarius Dwarf Galaxy, though we have scheduled a comprehensive mission review to determine how the events of the last few months have altered our mission profile. But before then we have a bigger problem to resolve with our Captain.

Captain Green-One’s phase transition isolation was taking much longer than it should have so we were forced to break the Captain’s quarantine request. Before forcing an entry we chose to first do the civilized thing and ring the entry buzzer. To our surprise the door was quickly answered. To our greater surprise it was answered by two beings – both our Captain!?

Green-One is a Grunchut’t. They reproduce through an asexual process in which the adult divides into two copies of itself, complete with full memories. However this process is an elective action and was fully unintended by our Captain. We have been exposed to so many mysterious phenomena that it would be impossible to isolate the culprit, but clearly something forced an involuntary reproduction reflex.

On its surface this may seem like a boon to us. Green-One has been a good Captain – especially being unexpectedly thrust into the role after the death of Captain Mozyx. However Grunchut’t psychological development seems to act against their favor. As a Grunchut’t pair develops they both go through a sort of rejection process, not unlike “teen rebellion” in Humans. So after a time the two Captains could end up countermanding each other in a most chaotic fashion.

As a result of this event I may be forced to assume command, but not until we’ve exhausted all other options to give Green-One the opportunity to command the mission it’s earned. Dr. Paj and his team have some theories to test, but their time is slim. The mission must proceed and we’re already seeing the first signs of Green-One’s self-rebellion.
