OK, maybe this is the start of another faux cover series.... only time will tell ;) Back in the seventies most of the Star Trek novels were authored by established SF writers, like David Gerrold, Joe Haldeman, and James Blish. So what if they'd stepped up the production schedule and increased the writers' stable? This little series will look at what covers for Trek books by Larry Niven, Alfred Bester, and P.K.Dick might have looked like.

As a disclaimer, this cover is a complete work of fictional fiction and nothing should be implied by the inclusion of the author's name. Blah, blah, blah..... in other words, "don't sue me, it's a made up homage to the 70's best SF writing talent!"

DAZ Studio render. Enterprise model by Aggi.
And in this case, I HOPE it's "retro"!! ;)

Now THESE are the Star Trek books I love to read! :D I have a shelf full of them, and this looks just like it. The model you used is also something interesting, because it has the details of the old AMT model, and a book cover painter might use one back then as a reference. :)

I love doing these old faux book covers. It's like junk food for me! :D

Just wanted to add my comments to this one. I really enjoyed it. I like how you have captured the feel of the original paperbacks, but still given them a bit of a futuristic update. And I don't just mean replicating the format. You also managed it with the art itself. It's a really effective mix between the old and the new. Excellent job. I hope you do more of these.

The composition and color scheme really does remind me of those old James Blish novel covers... nice!

I think I've got the old Bantam graphic design down, pretty well ;)

the 70's and early 80's were the bomb for Star Trek novels. I ignore all the new ones, but if I saw this one I would snatch it up. Love that art style. Brings back such wonderful memories!

Glad you ride the same nostalgia train as I do! :)
Maybe I'll do some more in this "famous author" series, when I get another idea or three.
