This is actually a piece from a larger image.... too large to scan. But in terms of technical details, this is perhaps my favorite image of the Type-S that I produced. It was HEAVILY influenced by design tweaks introduced to the craft by Tom Peters [link] . There are a few perspective problems that catch my eye, but on the whole I like it (sorry, Si - but I'm usually my own worse critic). The whole image originally saw print in GDW's Challenge magazine.

it looks like it came straight out of Star Wars.

Sorta. I mean the wedge shape like this is pretty generic.

Well... I did this drawing. I didn't design the original Type-S or anything, though :D
Ah, the days of youthier youth.... I miss them so....

Wow, incredible. The canopy looks nearly identical to one of several canopy experiments I was doing for the Type-S modelled in XSI and rendered using Crysis' sandbox. I was going for something sleeker than the usual Type-S look that would give more visibility. Being able to walk through the cockpit in-game was cool but it showed me that the visibility is extremely limited. So another canopy I experimented with had the entire roof transparent. Kind of like what you have there but bulging out just a bit.

3D walk throughs certainly are great design tools! Yeah, this might be well served by a couple of overhead viewports as well.
