Captain’s Log, Stardate 58471.1: Captain Green-One-Up, reporting. The shuttlecraft Gan De has just returned to the Clarke from the rogue planet we’ve been orbiting for fourteen hours. As with most wandering world’s that Federation science has discovered, we expected great age. Our initial sensor readings also pointed to towards that conclusion. But in studying the return samples from the shuttlecraft, we were stunned by the results.
It seems our voyage to the Sagittarius Dwarf Galaxy has perhaps caused us to elicit too many physical science superlatives, but we are in all new territory. Best as we can tell, this rogue moon may be the oldest planetary body ever discovered by Federation science. Our analysis puts the age of this object at around 11.6 billion years old. Given its current speed and trajectory, it’s clear that its origin is from far outside this galaxy and possibly beyond even the local galactic neighborhood, making it perhaps the most distant object encountered as well.
The findings warrant at least one more expedition before we move on. Our science department members are now climbing over one another to get a slot on that away team, so I’m sure we’ll be offering our best and brightest a crack at this amazing find. We will be landing them near a curious magnetic anomaly that our sensors have picked up. With a body of this age, theories abound as to the cause.
